The Lim Lab in the RNA Division at New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking an exceptional post-doctoral fellow to lead a research project concerning the role of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in shaping bacterial evolution. A successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing high-throughput genetic screens to identify accessory and host factors that regulate the activity of MGEs function and investigate the regulatory mechanism. This position offers exciting opportunities for broad research training, collaboration with academic institutions, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participation in national and international conferences. As a key member of our lab, you will contribute to shaping the future of science and building a culture that celebrates diversity in backgrounds and approaches.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, design, develop and implement experiments examining the mechanism of MGEs and identifying host factors that regulate their activities.
  • Collaborate with investigators at NEB and in academia.
  • Keep a detailed record of research.
  • Publish scientific discoveries in leading journals.
  • Communicate research at NEB and scientific conferences.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in bacteriology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field.
  • A strong foundation in classical and modern bacterial genetic techniques.
  • A proven track record of designing and executing high-throughput screens.
  • Hands-on experience with next generation sequencing based workflow.
  • Strong desire to learn new skills and to expand the scopes of the research through internal and external collaborative efforts.
  • Strong record of scientific publication.
  • Detailed-oriented with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and scientifically curious.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Research experience with non-classical bacterial model systems.
  • Research experience with DNA/ RNA/phage biology.
  • Desire to mentor student interns.
