Introduction to Python: Sequence-to-Function Analysis for RNA

Date / Time: 7 Apr 2025 – 14 Apr 2025 (2 sessions)
– 7 Apr 2025, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
– 14 Apr 2025, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Audience: RNA biologists yearning for a “gateway” to bioinformatics.

Pre-requisites:
No formal training in bioinformatics is required. While it may be beneficial to have some exposure to basic programming concepts (variables, lists, strings, etc.) and familiarity with online bioinformatics tools, this is not necessary.

Delivery:
Online (live demos with Jupyter notebooks, breakout rooms, practical exercises, Q&A)

Description:
The central dogma of molecular biology specifies how ‘information’ flows between polymers that ‘encode’ information. The aim of this workshop is to show how molecular biology can be ‘recast’ into an ‘information-centric’ framework, and for participants to develop essential Python skills for bioinformatics. Here, we aim to re-contextualize many of the code concepts in RNA biology into an ‘informatic’ framework. This is the essence of bioinformatics.
