RNA Canada ARN congratulates Dr. Jennifer Porat as the 2024 recipient of the RNA Society’s Scaringe Award for Young Scientists (Graduate Student). The RNA Society/Scaringe Young Scientist Award recognizes the achievements of young scientists engaged in RNA research and to encourage them to pursue a career in the field of RNA science.  Jennifer received the award for her thesis research in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Bayfield at York University in Toronto, Ontario.  Dr. Porat showed that the eukaryotic RNA modification enzymes Trm1 and Bmc1 possess catalytic-independent activities that promote RNA stability and ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assembly of a variety of ncRNAs, including telomerase RNA, U6 snRNA and tRNA.
